These Ten Blockbuster Games Were Particularly Good

Hundreds of new video games were released again in 2024. Here we present titles from major studios that will be remembered – some of them shine precisely because you won’t find any real innovations there.

About New Innovations

Of course, there were still some games on the market that took a different path. But looking back, 2024 doesn’t really stand for major innovations. Nevertheless, it was not a bad year for games, and a number of titles were released that will still be good to play or fondly remembered in a few years’ time. But not only titles of online games matter. There is one page you should follow when it comes to the Spanish football titles: Spain La Liga predictions.

In this article, we present the best blockbuster games of the year, so the focus is on works by major studios.

Our List For You

“Astro Bot”- Our Number One

The best thing about the platformer “Astro Bot” is what’s missing. There is no expansive and rather annoying story. Instead of numerous game mechanics that have to be memorized, there are only a few that work very well. And the level design is free of filler material that unnecessarily stretches the length of the game.

“Astro Bot” is also pure fun to play. The focus of the entire work seems to be on making every single moment of the game fun. This is supported by simple and plausible mechanics, such as a vibrating controller that lets players feel where there is a hole in the wall. Elsewhere, the possibility of being transformed by the robot into a scorpion is a delight.

Particularly suitable for: People who put pure gaming fun above everything else – and who like to collect all kinds of objects.

  • Jump ‘n’ Run by Team Asobi for Playstation 5
  • USK from 6 years
  • Playing time: around 15 hours for a single playthrough

“Silent Hill 2 Remake”- A Decent Second Place

What the remake of “Silent Hill 2” does well can be summed up in one sentence: It’s really scary. But not through gimmickry, loud jumpscares or hordes of monsters screaming at the players.

As with the original from 2001, it is the rather subtle horror that gets under your skin here. The world of the protagonist’s thoughts, which also becomes the world of the players. The fine line between nightmare and reality. The completely modernized graphics also contribute to this – almost never before has fog looked so good.

Particularly suitable for: People who enjoy intelligent horror.

  • horror game by Bloober Team for PC and PlayStation 5
  • USK from 18 years
  • Playing time: around 17 hours for the story

“Helldivers 2”- The Last Of Our Lead 3

It’s hard to say exactly why “Helldivers 2” was such a huge success. Sure, the handling of the weapons feels really good. The graphics are chic. And the game is bombastic in its staging and at the same time quite humorous in its tone. But many other games also have all of this.

Ultimately, what makes “Helldivers 2” particularly good are the people with whom you experience all of this together. The shooter focuses on cooperation in online mode and on playing in a group. The varied missions can thus be won together – without having to spend hours familiarizing yourself with the game mechanics beforehand.

Particularly suitable for: People who like to experience action together with other people.

  • shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios for Playstation 5 and PC
  • USK from 16 years
  • Playing time: around 50 hours for the co-op mode

“The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom”

It’s moments like this that make “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom” so special: Players discover a trampoline in the game world. At the touch of a button, they learn the shape of the bouncing device and can then conjure it up wherever they want. But even with it, they can’t jump high enough to reach a higher level – but there’s a treasure chest waiting for them. So they conjure up two tables, place the trampoline on them and now they can get high enough.

Zelda, the game’s protagonist, doesn’t wield a sword, but a magic wand. This encourages players to experiment. In “Echoes of Wisdom”, there is usually not just one right path. And this constant encouragement to try things out is the game’s great strength.

Especially suitable for: People who want to experience an adventure that relies entirely on their imagination.

  • action adventure game from Nintendo for Nintendo Switch
  • USK from 6 years
  • Playing time: around 25 hours for the story

“Indiana Jones And The Great Circle”

Sometimes it’s good when a video game fulfills expectations exactly. When it doesn’t do something completely new, but delivers what most players have been waiting for. In the case of the “Indiana Jones” film series, that would be: sneaking through abandoned catacombs, searching for treasures and beating up wonderfully clichéd villains. And if it all has a mysterious twist, all the better.

“Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” fulfills such expectations. Set in 1937, the game is about an artifact that can change history. And about villains in the form of Nazis who want to use this power for their own purposes. The studio Machine Games, known from the modern “Wolfenstein” series, transforms all of this into a really well-functioning adventure game with bombastic graphics and catchy game mechanics.

Particularly suitable for: Fans of bombastic action games who are not necessarily looking for something new in terms of gameplay.

  • action adventure game from Machine Games
  • For PC and Xbox Series, planned for Playstation 5 in spring 2025
  • USK from 16 years
  • Playing time: around 15 hours for the story

“Metaphor: ReFantazio”

Don’t be fooled by the visuals. “Metaphor: ReFantazio” is not just a clownish role-playing game in which quirky characters experience weird adventures. While this is certainly part of its charm, it is also a stylistic device: underneath this chaos, the game deals with some serious and complex topics. Be it the oppression of population groups for racist reasons. Or the inner contradictions and fears of characters who are not just heroic heroes.

Fortunately, the game mechanics that drive the story forward also work well. The turn-based battles, for example, which are interspersed throughout. Or the simulation elements that allow players to build and maintain their relationships with different characters. However, if you want to play “Metaphor: ReFantazio”, you need to be patient: This game is really long.

Particularly suitable for: Fans of Japanese role-playing games who like to invest a lot of time in their characters.

  • role-playing game from Atlus for Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox Series and PC
  • USK from 16 years
  • Playing time: around 65 hours for the story
