You have probably heard the saying, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” The truth is though that dogs are a lot smarter than we give them credit for and it turns out humans can learn from our canine companions when they do something incredibly smart. This article explores how older dogs in particular, actually learn things quickly because their senses aren’t as tuned-in to information about threats in their environment which allows them to focus on more subtle details of what’s happening around them. That said, I hope you enjoy this interesting discussion!
The “pinching yourself meaning” is a phrase that has been used for many years. It typically means to remind yourself of something difficult or painful. However, the phrase also can be used as a way to express disbelief or shock.
Highlights of the article:
- AJ Dillon, a second-year running back for the Green Bay Packers, is ecstatic to be a part of the team.
- The Boston College product recently discussed how he came to respect the organization that took a chance on him by selecting him in the first round.
- After Aaron Jones’ knee injury, the Packers will need Dillon to be at his best in the coming weeks.
In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers startled the football world by trading up and selecting Utah State quarterback Jordan Love with a first-round choice. When the Packers selected Boston College running back AJ Dillon in the second round, the critics went all out.
Dillon, a three-time first-team All-ACC winner who ran for 4,482 yards and 38 touchdowns at Boston College from 2017 to 2019, is a prime example of this. He heard the naysayers and the commotion, and now, less than two years later, the 23-year-old running back is ecstatic to have silenced them.
Only three hours were required for AJ Dillon to completely comprehend the Green Bay Packers organization.

The Packers have a wide receiver hole going into the 2020 draft. As we now know, the club instead chose a raw quarterback and a running back who, barring injury, would have started his career behind the electrifying Aaron Jones.
Dillon, on the other hand, tried his best to ignore the naysayers. In a recent interview with NBC Sports’ Peter King, the second-year back confessed that in order to become a good NFL all-purpose back, he utilized the hostility as “message board fodder.”
Dillon claimed he watched a three-hour video on the Packers’ history and what the franchise meant to Green Bay the day after the 2020 draft finished.
“I still have to pinch myself every now and again before I go into practice.” Or I’m driving over to practice and think to myself, ‘Oh my, this is true, I’m a Packer,’ as I approach Lambeau. I’ve visited the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame three times already, simply to see what it’s all about. I’m really proud to be a member of the family here now that I know the history.”

Last year, the AP All-American was restricted to 46 carries in 11 games due to Jones’ Pro Bowl performance and Dillon’s absence due to the COVID-19 list.
This season, Dillon has progressively progressed and silenced his detractors.
In March, the Packers officially granted Jones a four-year, $48 million agreement with a $13 million signing bonus, thereby ending Dillon’s chances of being the Packers’ primary running back in 2021. Unless, of course, the latter finds himself in a position where he is unable to play.
Despite coming off the bench in each of the Packers’ first ten games, Dillon amassed 421 yards and two scores on 4.3 yards per carry. He also advanced his objective of becoming a dangerous all-purpose back by gaining 196 yards and a score on 16 receptions. Most significantly, he hasn’t turned the ball over since fumbling twice against the Washington Football Team in Week 7.
That’s a 716-yard pace from a backup running back over the course of a 17-game season. Every club will accept such figures, particularly if Rodgers is still dealing with the effects of his COVID-19 match.
The majority of Dillon’s work came in Week 10, when he ran for his first two touchdowns of the season and 66 yards on 21 rushes while filling in for Jones, who went down with a knee injury halfway through a 17-0 win against Russell Wilson and the failing Seattle Seahawks.
Those who believe the Packers should have taken a receiver or weapon for Rodgers with the 62nd overall choice are unlikely to alter their thoughts now. At the very least, we’re witnessing what Dillon can accomplish when given the chance.
In the coming weeks, the Packers will need Dillon to be at his best.
Some Packers fans who publicly questioned and despised Dillon’s selection got to rejoice with him when he did a Lambeau Leap in Week 10.
In the coming weeks, those same fans can expect to see more of Dillon. Jones has a sprained MCL and is anticipated to miss the Packers’ game against the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 21. It’s unclear if the UTEP product will be ready to play in Week 12 when the Packers face Odell Beckham Jr. and the new-look Los Angeles Rams.
Dillon may be used as a standard rusher or as a receiving back, according to the Packers. He’s gotten better and better as the season has gone on, which is great news for a club seeking to make its first Super Bowl appearance in 11 years.
At this time a year ago, no one knew how they felt about Jones. He might now be the difference in the Packers securing the NFC’s top seed. It’s amazing how fast things in the NFL can change.
