On Tuesday, October 12th, Hearthstone will release a new game mode that combines the CCG’s characters with RPG and roguelike features. It’s called Mercenaries, and it’s a PvE game that allows players to join a mercenary group and take on bounties for prizes while also building a mercenary town.
The game begins with the Bounty Board, when players choose whatever bounty they wish to pursue. After that, players choose a group of six mercenaries, three of whom will fight and the other three will wait on the Bench, coming on the battlefield when mercenaries are destroyed or replaced with abilities. Even if a mercenary is killed or rides the Bench, all XP gained from a bounty remains, and bounties may be replayed if players are looking for particular rewards.
The developers have put up a detailed breakdown of all of this mode’s features, including an overview of fighting, a look at the Mercenary Village, and even a complete list of mercenaries that may be found. Diablo, Sylvanas, and Lich King mercenaries are included in the list; those three can be earned in-game or purchased immediately through three different bundles, and those who sign up for a six-month WoW subscription get extra goodies like Tavern Pass and Battlegrounds Perks for this and the next expansion, 15 packs from United in Stormwind, and 15 packs from the next expansion.
